Rebuilding your engine

My girlfriend has a 2003 Z4 3.0 liter engine and she took her car for an oil change and shortly afterwards her engine tanked.

Is it realistic to get the engine rebuilt or should we purchase a rebuilt engine?

She lives in the Denver area?

Sorry - she took her car to an oil changing place and she believes that the oil change was not properly done and she believes it caused her engine to fail.

Still incredibly vague.
You're gonna have to supply a few more details buddy if you expect to us to offer any sensible suggestions.

Overfilled?
Sump plug not replaced when refilled then driven 'til seized?
Replaced with baby oil instead of new oil??

I agree. A hell of a lot of knowledge on here to help you, but even the experts need something to start with.
A lot of use of 'believes'?
If certain that it is the oil change place at fault then should be going back there first.

I totally understand - we just got together and her car has been sitting in her garage for over two years that's why I don't have any details to give you but what I'm getting to is it work having 2003 BMW Z4 2-Door Convertible M54 Engine 3.0L L6 DOHC 24V rebuilt?

Well that's understandable in the circumstances.

You should be able to find a few for sale to give an indication of what a running one would be worth - I've no idea of values in the States.

Then maybe get a rough indication (and that's all it will be if you can't be specific about what is wrong with it) of engine rebuild cost from a local specialist and go from there.

These engines are cheap to buy so if it's as bad as you say buy another and swap it over. I've fitted a few M54 lumps the last couple of years and both have cost me around £200 with around 100k miles.
