Rearview mirror light - possible to reattach?

I have auto dimming rearview mirror in my Z4MR.. a day in I removed the small plastic thing underneath it (which does not turn for autodimming) and this made the light behind it come off (which is there to illuminate the gear lever).. so I'm left with a small LED light and a small circuit board where it was presumably soldered on..my question is a) where is this supposed to be attached? soldering it back on would be near impossible and dangerous in such a small space, but maybe i can attach it again with a couple of small cables.. and b) do you think they'll repair this under warranty as something that "stopped working" ??
