Rear wheel (brake?) noise

Pootering around France I've started to notice a bit of a whirring from the rear wheels. Under acceleration it goes away, still audible under braking. its faint, usually only noticeable with windows down when passing a wall (to reflect the sound).

MOT recently i asked the guy to inspect brakes, he estimated 3-4k life left in rear discs. theres some small judder through steering wheel under heavy braking.

it sounds like a metal brush once every rotation of the rear wheels, both sides i think.

any ideas? im not worried, should i be? still got 2000 miles of road trip to do including some spirited mountain roads!
 
Resurrecting an ancient thread as I have this problem and its driving me nuts! Is this normal but more noticeable because with the roof down you're more open to the noise?

Will a wheels off and re-grease help? I'm also getting a handbrake stick and squeal, could this be related and or remedied in the same way?

I've still got the issue, i believe it to be due to deposits on the discs from 'spirited' driving. As far as i can tell, the remedy is to complete a bedding in cycle, as per the stoptech instructions for pad deposits: http://www.stoptech.com/technical-support/technical-white-papers/-warped-brake-disc-and-other-myths

I know when i read that page it seemed to pretty much describe my situation. Sadly i've not had a chance to find an empty road to do this on - a bit busy last few weeks!
 
Am I reading the date backwards? I thought it was 07?

The very edge of the discs have a rust-like deposit on them. It's more of a nuisance than anything else but I do worry it's restricting mpg and putting stress on other parts if they are constantly battling a slight brake force.

If you get to do it let me know how it works please.
