Rear Wheel Bearing Replacement

Pretty sure I have a rear wheel bearing going on my ///M, mileage is just over 60k miles. I need to jack it up and have a feel, but something doesn't sound right at certain speeds. It's one job I've never done on any car, is it a DIY job? Any special tools required, press etc?

Looks like I can get a rear bearing for £46.99 from Eurocarparts, there are some cheaper alternatives though, but would rather avoid them.

Agreed. For a one off, the tools required outweigh the savings.
 
Many years ago I've changed a couple of wheel bearings (Triumph 2000 and Triumph GT6) and even with a bearing puller it's not the easiest of jobs, and once you start you need to finish it! I'd never do another DIY. It's also less worrying if you don't see the mechanic smacking your hubs with a lump hammer too. :P

I have done a few and not a nice job... Nothing complicated but time consuming and you need a press.

Bearing is rare at low miles like yours...

FAG bearings are great... Never had a problem with them..
 
Replaced the front bearing on my E36 only last week, was actually a piece of piss. Jack car up, undo hub nut a couple of turns only, put wheel back on, lower weight of car onto wheel, give the wheel a wobble, jack car back up and remove wheel, bearing fell off including inner race which is usually a pig.

Not sure how much more difficult rear wheels are though given they are the drive wheel...
 
I did my bearing on my none M zed. I would not hesitate in suggesting going to your local indie...
On most cars there are some nice special tools you can buy/hire that make it a process of going through the motions. The bearing on the ZED was horrible, I would pay the indie as the risk of damaging the bearing going in is a hassle and if it does get messy you might need to have a re-alignment done!
