Rear view mirror cracked line / broke

Good evening, I picked up a lovely Z4 last week which just had a few little jobs that I would like to do in slow time to make it perfect. One such job is sort the rear view mirror, it currently has lines in it which look cracked but you can’t see anything on the mirror so must be internal. I’ve attached some pictures here but it’s hard to see. Wondering wether to pick up a second hand one or get it refurbished? I’ve heard there is someone on this forum who does that?

If it's an auto dimming mirror be careful that the fluid inside doesn't leak out.
I understand that it's very corrosive and can ruin the centre console

Thanks for the info just been back out to look at mine and although no damage to the dash I think it’s previously leaked already from these white marks under the mirror, what do you think?

Sorry not an expert as I've not experienced this issue - just read threads on here about it
From what they've said I'd have thought you'd have definitely seen damage on the centre console
Is it still working?
There's some very knowledgeable people on here, hopefully one will be along soon :thumbsup:
 
No there has been no damage at all to the dash or surrounding areas....very odd. When I get time I might remove the mirror and go from there
 
I’d get that down quick before it does leak all over you dash/centre console and burn it.

Yeh that’s the plan to be honest. I’m away in the car with work all weekend. Do I need tools to get it off? If so then it’s going to have to wait until next week as a job. Currently on the search for a new mirror
 
Nope no tools needed :D
Carefully unclip the cover (2 pieces), so turn mirror (only the mirror/glass) to the far right, remove left cover, turn mirror to the left, remove right cover.
After that you can (carefully) rotate the base and it will just come off. It won't fall as the cable is still plugged in. As for fixing this, I believe there are some replacement options, or just convert to manual.
Alternatively, the mirror glass from the 1 series also fits, you just have to transfer the FZV module in the mirror. (wiring is the same)
