Rear Ventilation Flaps

For those that replaced the rear ventilation flaps (64226909340), (1) did you do it from the boot without removing the bumper, and (2) was it just replacing the flaps or were there other parts like insulation and gaskets? Anything to watch for, avoid, etc?

Some old threads mention the flaps priced at 4 pounds sterling. Here in 'Murica the OE price is $37. Obviously inflation and Liberation Day tariffs don't help. But does $37 sound right?

Has not been done already on call back?
Or are they worn out.
When i bought my 2009 car in 2012, from the key fob record said they were done.

Needs the bumper off and new gasket if it’s damaged which probably it will…£40 ish the price per unit..

Never tested on an E85, but on our E89 the exact same (64226909340)...
  • new vents will be delivered with a new gasket
  • new vents cost about 28€ per piece +shipping in Germany
  • unlike newTIS explanation for E89, the vents can be clipped off from the inside of the trunk without removing the bumper, new ones can be simply clipped in from the inside. Done this way dozens of times on E89.

Rob-oo-roo, my main man, after removing the inside panels and noise insulations, what else comes off before the vents? (You know, I don't want to run out of whiskey mid-job.)

Well, that depends: :D

On the left - easy going: remove the interior trim, the taillight cover and the storage shell/compartment.

On the right - a little challenge: removing the interior trim, the taillight cover, all electronic control units (ECUs) as well as the polystyrene box for the devices. The latter is somewhat tricky to remove and reinstall.

Press each of the 4 brackets to loosen the vent to the outside of the trunk, but keep it in place with your 2nd hand! Then it has to be turned ~45° and pulled slightly into the car. Install the new vents in reverse order. Keep care of the new gaskets to not slide it off.

Even if it's not that easy, it's less work then removing the bumpers.

Does this apply to all models? I can't remember from previous topics if this is a "should be done" or "should be done if you have these symptoms"

I think I'll go for the bumpers off if I'm not already deep in there!

Did it as well this way at first.
But it's a bit risky on our elder cars, as the 4 or 5 tiny plastic tabs on the upper outside on both sides of the bumper typically will break when taking them off.

Ah..I've been lucky then!-:)

I had to remove that box to fetch something that fell underneath. That alone was a PITA. And half bottle of whiskey. I better stock up on my preferred medication.
That one on the left takes just 2 minutes to disassemble. The half bottle of whiskey would take much more time.

I think you may be using too much ice. I've added these vents to my -- "when I take the bumper cover off to do pdc, camera, and CA retrofit" weekend -- not scheduled yet.
