Rear tyres

Hi all,

I could really do with some help, the thread on my rear tyres are really getting quite low. I believe they are Conti's 255/40 R 18 95Y

Would this be a suitable replacement? https://www.blackcircles.com/catalogue/michelin/pilot-super-sport/225/40/R18/Y/92/f?tyre=35790907 - it's just easy to use a local garage and there's 15 quid off.

I have PSS on the front already (from a couple of years back) and haven't had any issues.

Thanks!

Errr yes, I mis-pasted the link! I knew there was a reason I wanted to ask and check! :D (thanks for that).

I've seen a few threads about the PS4S and the positive comments. But whats the opinion on PSS vs PS4?

Ben

PS4 is more of a normal road tyre, PSS is more of a summer/sports tyre.

Depends how you use your car I guess?

Wasn't the marketing schpiel that the PS4 was as good as the PSS in the dry, but better in the cold/wet?

Whilst the PS4S was better than the PSS in all conditions?

I think that was the PS4S which was the replacement for the PSS

As far as I know the PS4 is just the new PS3?

Genuinely have a good Google I've not looked into tyres for a good year or so but that was what I understood at the time.

On the basis of...

"While Pilot Sport 4 replaces the Pilot Sport 3, it’s an improvement on the Pilot Super Sport, not a “new” Pilot Sport 3, in design and technology. In comparative testing in 18" sizes, Pilot Sport 4 outperforms the Pilot Super Sport in 99% of everyday situations, with the added benefit of 10-15% improved wear. The other 1% is on a dry track where the Pilot Super Sport would outperform the Pilot Sport 4 by a couple of tenths of a second around a long track."

I went for PS4!

I'm not so sure about the statement of PS4 replacing PS3. PS3 is a more rain focussed tyre for hot-hatch kind of cars. The PS4 comes in to fill the gap in between the PS3 and the PSS. The PSS being focussed for dry handling on high-performance cars. I've had PS3 on my previous car and PS4 on my Coupe.

To conclude this, I'm really happy with the PS4 purchase. The difference is night and day.

It might be the placebo effect but they feel a lot more comfortable and quieter. I previously had ContiSport Contact M3 so a relatively old tyre.

It's not a placebo...the Continental M3 tyres were no better than ditchfinders in my experience (about 50,000 miles / 3 sets of them).

Don't forget that they're 20 year old tech, 'based on' the even older Continental SportContact 2.

I think you'd be hard pushed to find a modern UHP tyre that isn't better.

I have gone from PSS to PS4, they have very different characters, summer temps PSS much better but in cold /wet PS4 best

Odd question but has anyone tried Yokohama Advan Fleva V701‘s?? Quite a number of friends who track day cars use these and rave about them... and they are £432 for all four... which seems like a steal! They have pretty good reviews too. Just stating to think about what to shod mine with for 2-3k per year.

bjd,

If you're going to buy tyres from Black Circles check with them before you buy, the date of manufacture of the tyres they'll send you. Last year they sent me a pair of 4 year old tyres which I rejected. They claim they had no knowledge of BMW's advice that their cars should not use tyres older than 6 years! Yeah! Right! Liars.
