Rear tyre dilemma

Looking at getting 2 new rear tyres and saw some threads about going to the Z4M tyre sizes

I currently have 255/35 r18 Goodyear f1 and was looking at the Michelin pilot sport 4 (to match my fronts)
For the standard Z4 sizes they are about £155 but for the Z4M sizes (255/40 r18) they are closer to £195

My question is, is it worth the extra cash for the extra comfort and are there any other benefits?

Not worried about the speedo errors.

Wow those MPS4 tyres aren't cheap are they? :o

Based on a post by "mr wilks" a year or so ago I got Kumho Ecstas fitted to my 224s after they were refurbed in April and have been very pleased with them - although I've only done 2,000 miles since then!

I went up another profile from M sizes and bought 255/45 rears for £175.33 + VAT for the pair from Black Circles. :)

They're certainly more comfortable than the 265/30 x 19 MPSSs I took off, but that's hardly surprising.

I suppose other than comfort the only other benefit is a bit more sidewall protection for the wheel rim.

But for the sake of another £40 each to keep a matching set I'd probably just bite the bullet, unless your fronts are likely to need replacement soonish. After all £80 isn't a fortune when you think how long they are going to last.
 
Wouldnt you need to go z4m sizes front and rear at the same time? If the fronts are normal z4 size id get normal z4 size on the rear to match.
 
I’ve just put PS4S on my CSLs and they are without doubt the best tyres I’ve ever had comfort grip and low noise.

Even when it it’s been cold recently the rear end wouldn’t let go with my old vredsteins the car would let go at the back end all of the time, great fun but not when you don’t mean to.
 
Interesting to know that MPS4S work well in the cold and damp as that was one of the other issues I had with the MPSS tyres - they really didn't like those sort of conditions. :o
 
Iv'e got Mich PS4 all round on my roadster, as already mentioned they excellent tyres & worth every penny. The backs are 265/35/18 they grip exceptionally well even in the wet. A couple of weeks ago I drove all the way to Birds Auto to have a Quaife LSD fitted. A round trip of 500 miles. Now the handling is even better. So without question if I were you I'd defiantly pay the extra.
 
I like the mps4 on the front so definitely will go for them on the rear it's just the question of the profile /35 or /40

Would there be a problem having standard z4 size up front and z4m on the rear. Would the abs kick up an issue?
 
I can't say for sure but somehow I doubt it.

When I went up a profile on my rears I didn't have any warning light issues.

That's good to know, looks like I've sorted out my Christmas pressie to myself (another one)
 
I have Michelins on my '07 3.0si (staggered size). It's a date-night car, and also does track days, but not when the temp dips below 40F. I couldn't be happier and when I burn these off, I'll gladly buy another set.
