Rear Stowage compartment broken ?

The Z I've bought has the rear compartment for storage behind the seats broken - well I'm not sure if it is actually broken.....it won't open and I didn't want to force until after I've bought the car.

Is the spring a known challenge and does anyone have any ideas how I can get into it without causing too much damage ?

Not going to happen - she says it's been like it for some time and didn't want to break it herself.

Negotiated the odd things not right into the price :)

If it were the spring, you should be able to press the release and at the same time pry the door open with a bank card or something. If it is locked, then the lock motor may have failed. Older Zeds should have a release cable in the boot to manually release the lock. If there is no release cable, you may be able to carefully work the catch upwards through the upper gap with a couple small sharp tools until it releases, as the lock works on the release button, not the catch itself.

Thanks - will give some of these a try next weekend once I have the car - I'm not too worried but would be nice to get it open and see if there's £1m hidden inside

These things should have doors? Mine don't. :o

The Centre part, not directly behind the seats.

Phew! Thanks both. Yes, my centre console has a door but thought the thread was referring to the storage behind each seat. Sounds like I could be normal after all!!

Rightm picked the car up today and pleased with it thus far but still have this issue :(

Am I right in thinking the bits for phone pairing and the sat nav are behind the centre glovebox ?

Went to the dealer who were less than helpful but I guess that's to be expected.

The door/compartments (both of them) are not coming open, and using the manual pulling on the bit of string in the boot didn't help either (didn't want to pull so hard it broke.

The stealer suggested they'd break the lock to see why it had stopped working but short of that (which I won't pay them to do) any other ideas ?

Two things, where are the pics :poke:

and secondly are you planning on joining us for the Sussex meet in June, if you are and can wait that long we can probably help with the flap.

Depends on the date in June (haven't loked at all bits of the forum yet  ) but yes if I'm around I'll certainly pop along.......

Pics, let me get the shopping trolley dents out first (My mate Dennis Dents is outside doing them right now :D )

Phone cradle mounts to back of door. Don't know about navi bits.

You might have another go a the string release. It takes a firm steady pull for a while to release. You don't want to break it of course, but it doesn't give up easily. You are pulling on the rack of a little rack and pinion device. The pinion is connected to the lock driver motor's armature. You need to spin this little pinion and the mass of the armature by way of the geared rack you are pulling on. If you pull steadily and firmly, you should feel it slowly give way as the rack travels, spinning the armature the whole way. Once there is even more resistance and no more travel, it should be unlocked.

Well, I (rather my dent man and I) got it open - the string was never going to open it :(

The top catch is actually broken but that's not the one I needed access to.

Got the bottom one open - both the catch and flap work independently of one another :) just not together :(

However, I'm thinking I only need to access this panel to update my sat nav and then pair my bluetooth ? Anything else I'd need access for regularly ?

Plus I have a tool (plastic wedge) that will get it open should I need to :)
