Rear springs question

And the other side where the standard spring is (this is the one I replaced) that should be a bit higher then usual as it is.

Blue is sport, yellow is standard - so if you took off a blue and put a yellow on then you have put a standard spring on that is 15mm higher than the other three springs on the car.

I'd not like to leave it like that for long...

Are we getting anywhere yet :P

Yes but the one that seems to be sitting highest is the blue sports one (the one I didn't change from that first pic) That's where I'm getting most confused :P I'd have thought the one I changed SHOULD have been sitting higher but the blue sport one not.

Tbh I'm tempted to just take it into the stealers and get then to stick four new springs on all corners because it's not sitting right anywhere.

That idea Ste, would surely be an eye watering cost ... Sounds odd though. My SI def has blue paint splatted across the springs.

Right think I've got my head round it to some extent.

I'm gonna assume for whatever reason the passenger side rear spring is dodgy so sitting higher then it should. I've not touched that or been near it since I've had the car so not sure why.

The driver side rear is slightly higher then it should but that's because it's a standard and not a sport spring.

So solution for now I'm gonna put the other standard one on (the other one in the pair matt sent me) in place of that passenger side original one that's making it so high. Both rears will be 15mm higher then the sports ones but at least they'll match and be a pair. Then I'll get a new pair of proper sport springs for the rear as a long term solution.

Sorry, I posted while you were posting the second pic and further explanation.

Stupid question - are you sure the spring you didn't change has a blue mark on it ?

Also, have you sat in the car since you changed the spring ? Sometimes my car only returns to normal ride height at the rear after being jacked up when I sit in it. Though usually the side that was jacked up, not the opposite.

That is totally weird...

Not sure the one I DIDNT change has blue spots on no, like I said I haven't been near it, I do know that the broken one that came off did. Either way it's the one I didn't change that seems to be causing the problems so I'll change that over to standard to match and take a slightly higher ride (but at least normal) for a few days.

In really confused myself reading this haha. So the one you "didn't " change has blue stripes on. Or the one you took off had blue paint?

Haha right I'll start again.

Rear spring on driver side went.

Matt kindly sent me two rear springs (with green dots on).

I took off a broken blue dotted spring from the driver side and put on a green dotted one (which was the start of the thread, I wasn't aware there was a difference).

So now the driver side is sitting a bit higher as it's got the standard spring on which is 15mm higher

However the passenger side which I haven't touched is sitting even higher for some reason. I understand why the driver side is a bit high but no idea why the passenger side is. I have no idea what sprint is on that side I haven't touched it since I've had the car.

Phew :P

Haha got it. And have no idea why either  driver's side is shot on mine and it is sat there lob sided as well.

Okay, sounds like a sensible plan, at least you will have two matching springs on the rear

Still think you should go sit in the passenger seat and bounce a little to see what happens - try taking the handbrake off when you do. Might just sit back down.

Don't forget that once a car is jacked up to replace a spring it takes at least 30 miles of driving to settle to the correct height.

Result:

Swapped the untouched spring which I presumed was an msport spring to match the green standard spring on the other side.

Turned out the one that came off that side had no paint spots on and seemed a bit chunkier and bigger then both the m sport spring and the standard spring... So I presume that at some point it broke but a previous owner replaced it with an incorrect spring.

But yeah both standard springs on the back now. 15mm higher then the m sport ones but they don't look too bad or out of place and at least they match now.

f**k knows what the spring that came off was.

How did you know the spring broke? Was the car much lower on that side? I ask because mine has been making a bit of a squeaking noise when I get it. Is that a sign of a spring going bad?

I was stripping and cleaning the brakes and noticed it, just take the wheel off and visually inspect the spring for cracks or broken bits.

Or it might go with a bang like mine did ... And leave the car like this and me with a red face  oh and brown pants
