Rear spring recommendation for 03 3.0i with sport package?

After my latest service I was informed that both of my rear springs are broken. I found this rather shocking, since nobody else on the forum seems to have this problem (sarcasm).

Anyway, the dealer wants $200 per spring. Under normal circumstances I would pay that to keep with factory parts (I want the car to ride and drive as it was designed) but seeing as how they tend to break constantly, I'm considering buying aftermarket springs.

My preference is to keep ride height as close to factory as possible. Has anyone found a suitable replacement? If I understand correctly, the sport package included lower and stiffer springs than the standard Z4 - so I want to take that into consideration when looking for the best match.

I really only want to replace the rear springs because the front are not broken.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
charlie

Eibach springs are popular, but lower the car further still, and if you only want two I think your only option is to stick with BMW.

What did the outcome end up being for you? I have a 03 2.5 sport and had it in for inspection yesterday to be told the very same thing, now also looking for stock height for sport springs in non bmw for the very same reason of the breakage issue.

Thanks for the response WonderMike.

Piper - I haven't done anything yet. The car seems to drive and ride fine. I do notice a squeak sometimes when getting out of it, but other than that there are no signs (that I'm aware of) that the springs are broken. I keep meaning to remove the wheels and look at them myself. At this time my plan is going to be to bite the bullet and buy 2 springs from BMW, then install them myself.

I lifted mine up today and found that the right rear was the broken one (ride height is equal still on both sides), though do plan on replacing them both as well.

I'm still leery about ones from bmw, since the braking issues. From what I've found so far Tein makes springs for us that are -0.6" for the rear of a drop, so it's the closest I've been able to find so far to keep stock height without getting stock.

As I also am doing reading from a previous post (just lost the page where I found it on here else I'd link it) it gave reference that Stock height vs sport was 15mm lower on sport, and Eibach as 15mm lower than that.

Under the Lowering rates of 30mm Eibach lists their drop, as well as I am assuming every other manufacture at stock height drop, rather than sport height drop. So now looking back to the Tein -0.6" (5.9"=15mm) if that is too referenced to stock height, not sport height, that should come pretty darn close for us. Just now I'm interested in the spring rates between the 3, our stock sport springs, Tein (360lbs/in r), and Eibach(390lbs/in r).
