As per title, i have a 2003 2.5 Z4 and whilst the sound system sounds great, i've noticed that if i fade to rear i have no sound.I've been reading around this excellent forum so looked for water in the amp compartment in the boot well but all is fine and it's bone dry.Could it be poor connections to the head unit or at the amp? Any other ideas? Thanks in advance. Al.

:) Ok, i've been to the boot (trunk) and found the amp stereo unit, in doing so i found a coaxial lead not connected to anything??? Can't for the life of me see where it could go? It is in the BMW loom/harness so i thought it better to post a pic.I doubt if this is the problem, so next i'm going to remove the stereo head unit to see if everything is properly connected.Any ideas guys?

* Edited just to add the coaxial is the small black wire at the bottom of the photo.

Put the car back together now and still no joy.Conections behind the stereo were ok, also behind the CD multiplayer.Connections at the amp was fine also.I'm thinking dodgy amp or head unit?? Any thoughts?

I know very little about these things but I do remember a thread where someone wrote that the large speakers behind the seats (Carver setup only) were connected with the front rather than the rear. He said that if you fade to rear then you won't get anything out of them. Have you tried changing the fade to front and having another listen?

Interesting? I've just put the car away before work but i'll have a listen tomorrow.

Al, found an interesting PDF detailing the various audio setups in the Z4, no mention of Harman Kardon though :?, guide is courtesy of bmwclub.lv.

Page 20 shows the coaxial cable connection location to the amp you were aksing about. It also has some service instructions so you can clearly identify whether your Z4 has DSP or not, if it's Carver then it does and you need the coaxial connected. Do you get sound at all from the CD changer? Coaxial is not required for standard or premium hi-fi.

Your email said you had the Carver setup installed as standard, wonder where the HK amp came from then?

Interesting Chris :? I possibly have the incorrect amp fitted? I have no socket available for the coaxial and my amp doesn't look like the amp on page 20 either, strange.

Is there anyone local (ish) in the south with a carver set up who will let me view to compare?? I'm prepared to travel to you just to see your set up..............Chris, you are too far away!! :P I'm on the M4 corridor in Swindon, i'd be very grateful if a forum member would help?

Al, sorry mate but think I'll be moving soon, so fed up with the weather.....but on the flip side, enjoying cleaning the car

Any joy checking part numbers etc? PM/email me, let me know how you're getting on
