Rear Speakers not working, Any suggestions?

As description says!

Pulled the rear away in the boot to check connections and all seems to be in OK. pulled the front grill away and took the speakers out and the connections are in where they should be.
Any other suggestions?

Silly question but is there a separate fuse that controls the rear speaker section? :sos:

Do you have DSP fitted to your car?

How would i find that?
I have the option to change bass/treble/rear/front etc is that it?

Thanks ADAMSKI i will check them this evening and see if that could be an issue.
 
Do have subs behind the seats? You'll have subs if you've got Hi-fi or Pro Hi-Fi (Carver/Logic 7 - both have DSP).

If you've got the subs, check your amp in the boot by the battery :thumbsup:
 
Yea i have subs there.
The large ones with Big ol' Magnets on it!

i will check the amp then now.
How would i know if its faulty? is there a specific fuse that the Amp runs off?
 
Dont think there's a specific fuse, but worth checking the appearance of the amp and wiring etc for any obvious faults :thumbsup:
 
Amps are either on fuse 50 or 102. 102 is located in a small fuse box next to the battery. No idea on why or when one is used instead of the other.

Some amps also have a fuse on the case itself, but I think that may be a facelift thing.
 
If you have DSP, the same button you use to set Base, treble etc will also scroll through to Church, Jazz and something else I can't remember, if you do have DSP then it is probably a damaged AMP, that was what my problem was, lost virtually all the speakers apart from two. Replaced the Amp and all was well. If you don't have DSP then as others have said check the fuses etc.
 
So... Amp looks OK no obvious signs of brokenness, wiring seems OK too. One large plug going into the amp (strangely no output though?)
Had a look for further settings as Drshemming suggested but I only have the basic bass/treble etc. no jazz, church etc :( will chech fuses tomorrow to narrow it down some more!
 
You have the mid-level audio system known as "Hi/Fi". (Not "Top Hi/Fi") All input/output is through the one 42 pin plug. You might pull the plug and check for damaged or corroded pins. You can also check continuity and backprobe to check output. Subwoofer wires are: Left, yellow & brown solid, pins 2 & 1. Right: blue & brown solid, pins 25 & 24. Brown is always negative side. Upper rear speaker wires are: Left, yellow with black & brown tracers, pins 31 & 32. Right: white with black & brown tracers, pins 13 & 21. Brown tracer always negative side.

Been so busy of late that I haven't had a chance to do anything with the Z :thumbsdown:
Got a motor day Friday though so will crack on. Gotta change the Cat and manifold on my wife's Punto Friday morning so will get that out the way then attack the Amp and sound system on the Z! :thumbsup:
Also will try and finish the exhaust bypass pipe as seen on another thread on here. Just had to wait to source the joining kit after I chop the back box off! :evil:
 
Hope you sort the Amp, sorry my spare wasn't the right version, I can't wait to hear the exhaust after the bypass pipe is fitted. :D
 
Have similar problem but lost all sound, both radio and the nice satnav lady.
Still a soft hiss from speakers, so guessing all wires are connected.
And the DSP dissapears from the settings menue as well. A software gremlin?
Pulled fuses in glovebox and even the battery, didn’t help.
Is there a harder resetting that can be done?
 
@Piero Bembo, interesting the DSP disappears, explains how the same head unit works with 2 very different amps, it must auto-detect the DSP interface on start up.

I'm afraid this probably means your amp is toast. You should attempt to confirm this some how, check continuity between HU and amp, ensure the HU is at least putting out analogue signals. There's a slight chance the DSP section of the HU went bad, but the only way to confirm would be to swap in another HU. But if you're swapping parts, swapping the amp makes more sense, as that's most likely where the problem lies. E83 X3s use the same amp, if that helps.

I know of no reset method other than killing power supply.

That's what I was getting at asking if you had DSP... wondering if it was an amp issue...
 
Quick update on this. After having a good rummage around with the amp and loom etc and still seeing nothing wrong i decided to try and bridge some of the terminals on the loom to see if the input was still working and if the speakers worked .
From what i gather...
There is 1 x right input and 1 x left input.

The front and rear drivers run off the same loop (inside the amp from what i can see and test)
The front tweeters run of individual left right outputs
The subs run of an output themselves.

My Rear outputs were not working so i have bridged the rear speakers with the Front Outputs to get sound in all 4 main drivers.
My Subs output dont to a thing either! Gutted still a little about this and dont think the subs would work great off the output of another speaker. I think what i am going to do is put in an amp to run the 2 subs, then job done!
Already sounds a ton better with the rear speakers working too but am eager to get the subs going too. :thumbsup:
