Rear Shelf Trim - Any fitting advice ?

I noticed that that the rear shelf trim on my car was severely broken, so ripped it out in pieces.

I've got the new piece (£14) and am struggling to fit it as you can only do it with the roof up, which then makes access difficult and forces you to work blindly in reverse ! The unit fits along the underside of the rear ledge behind the roll hoops and is best viewed through the rear windscreen. I've fitted it once but it was millimeters out and stopped the roof dropping the last six inches , as the glass needs to pass it in order to tuck underneath it, so the rest of the roof can sit on top.

Has anyone else replaced this part, and if so is there an easy way or special trick ?

If I cant fit it by next week, I'm going to have to call off the English/Welsh meet.....

I'm sure between us we can fit it. How much of the car will be left could be in question.

We nearly took a crowbar To Bing's this morning to undo a plastic clip.

Yeah, still think it would have been easier if we'd removed the wing - and I'm sure Number 5 will find it easier to fit that small piece of plastic trim if he first removes the roof

Roof off it is then.
Yeah, whole job shouldn't take 2 people more than 5 or 6 hours - just have to be careful not to drop the roof and smash the rear window, but I'm sure no-one would do that, would they...

Now then... Ive just got back home from having a glass of black stuff at the local and picked up all of your abuse !

I was rather hoping that you chaps would offer wise words of wisdom on how to detach the bottom part of the roof, expose the fitting area and complete the job in 15 minutes, rather than attempt to break my car for parts to feed JE's engine upgrade campaign. :D

I'll look optimistically again tomorrow morning... :poke:
