rear number plate

Hi,
Ive recently had to replace my rear number plate on my Z$ as some numpty backed into a park bench.

I got a replacement from the stealers for £15.

I predrilled 2 holes as per the original and screwed it in place.

However, the thing looks a bit bendy and flexes out at the 2 ends. Ive tried different tension settings with the screwdriver, but still the sides come forward about 5mms each.

It looks odd kind of sticking out at the ends instead of curling round the match the bumber curve.

Any ideas ???

I thought of buying a number plate holder which will go on first, but didnt want to ruin the curves of my Z4 too much.

Can you glue 'em ?

Cheers

Are you sure you haven't just slightly misaligned the holes in the plate so they are squeezing the plate? Try a needle file, or worse case the drill, and slightly elongate the holes inwards towards each other to relieve the tension.

Any good DIY store will sell rolls of extra-strong Sticky Fixer. I prefer to stick my plates on using that rather than drilling, purely for neatness. It's strong enough to hold even the front plate on a Z4 despite the curve of the bumper.

a11y - have you taken the plate holder off the front then ? I used the sticky fixer on my wife's car and they've not budged in 2 years. Got a pic ? Might do this...

EDIT - sorry, just realised how inappropriate my question is in light of the thread title...

I had to remove a plate that was stuck to the rear of my zed after I bought it. No issues, warming up with a heater softens the glue.

As per a11y's comment. Sticky foam/tape all the way

If you drill holes in the number plate then put some silicone sealer around the edge of the hole and let it set. This way no water will get into the number plate and cause a stain as water gradually seeps in around the hole.

I agree that sticky pads look neater. Problem is the OP now has two nasty holes drilled through a brand new rear number plate. :?

I got a pair of quality Euro plates on FleeBay for £7.99 delivered, so I think the OP should bin the drilled plate and go for the 'clean' look :D

Nah, I've still got the black plastic plate holde fitted. But looking at it there's quite a curve even to that. IIRC PawnSacrifice has removed his plate holder on his ///M bumper on his 3.0i (unless I'm thinking of someone else).

Easily solved by buying a new pair of plates for £8.59 including FREE sticky pads. I've bought plates from that place for the Z4, the camper and Mrs a11y's car and quality is perfect. No idea how the hell they churn them out so cheap...
