They are held in place by a spring clip on one side. You just prise them out with a screwdriver, and yes they take a bit of forcing out. If I remember correctly, there is a little indentation to guide you.
Beware, the clips on mine appear to be made out of monkey metal, I had to keep taking it back out and bending the clip before I got it to sit back in place properly.
