Why can't you just replace the bulbs with LED bulbs? I did that on some of the ones on my MX-5. I looked up LEDs for the plate lights on my 2007 Z4 and they have them at SuperBrightLeds dot com for just a few dollars: https://www.superbrightleds.com/vehicle/2007-bmw-z4-vehicle-led-lights?make=11&model=1802&year=2007

You can do this, but they look ridiculous as they're so bright.

Mine look fine on my MX-5, it has two plate lights that double as trunk lights.
You know, LED's come in different brightness levels, depending on the number of LEDs. You can also get them in different colors. On my Miata I replaced the overhead courtesy light and retrofitted in two LED floor level lights that come on with the door switch. I also replaced the center brake light with red LED bulbs and a pretty neat progressive flasher unit. It was probably cheaper then replacing all the parts you guys have been mentioning, that's why I brought it up.

You can just fit bulbs but in my experience the cheap led bulbs are poor quality and fail quite quickly, they are often not canbus as well so you end up with an error light on more modern cars. The better quality canbus error free leds can end up costing £7-£8 pounds each so I just bought the whole units for a few pounds more

I'm speaking from personal experience as I had a few sets of led's in the plate light holders before I bought the 1 series ones. Please don't confuse me with someone who doesn't have a clue

I think you could probably find some that were decent quality and not too bright.

But I just went with OE!

I can't believe the price has doubled in the last 18 months.

How about these?

Hell, I'm tempted to get another set just in case!

Hay, guys, LEDs are LEDs and if they don't work it's usually a polarity isssue, just reverse them. I'm had these in my MX-5 for a year and nothing has failed yet. And you can get different brightness levels if you want, but do what you want, just trying to save you a lot of expense and hassle. Peace.

just spoke to my local bmw they keep both original parts in stock(2 x 61138365340, 2 x 63267193294) total £30.44

Or buy from Getem.pl 137,24 Polish Zloty delivered, which I believe is £25 quid (since they currently only accept bank transfers, and mine charges £4 quid)

Might as well goto local dealers for them :)

Not sure I would go for 1 Series LED's - I had a pre-reg 123d for over 6 years and the only 2 lights that ever failed were both rear number plate ones! (The only LEDs on the car as far as I knew!!!!) Never changed any other bulb in over 80K miles!

LED to me seems to me to = wallet raping, albeit on a much lesser scale than N47 diesel engine cam-chains and N52 electric water pumps - but we still buy them!?

Did you need to change the connectors with these

Just been quoted 46.06 by sopers for pair of number plate leds and pair of connectors

Buy them on ebay. Pretty sure I paid £20 for the light units and £5 for the connectors. Sod paying almost double for some reg plate LED's.
