rear lights replaced

Had my rear lights replaced by the dealer today, was booked in for the offside only (slight condensation) but was told that it is BMW policy to replace both due to the known poor build quality of these units. Also they change all the seals for the latest spec type, so if anyone has a rear light water/condensation ingress, then expect to get both changed at the same time.
 
Check the units alignment tho. I've had both units replaced recently and the lamp units aren't quite spot on level with the bodywork.. Something ill be sorting as I give up with dealerships.

How are you going to do that mate?-is there a bit of give in the fittings?

First thing i did, along with my usual checks when i leave the car with anyone i`m having work done, one thing i always do is i take quick pic of the milage odometer with the iphone just to see if they have been out in it, no need on this occasion though and all is well. :D
 
My left side rear lamp stands proud of the boot lid by 3 or so mm and the right side is under by 1mm. Minor things that irritate me. They have some give so i'll just loosen them and get them to my liking.

10 plate 30i had rears and fronts done 18 months ago at 9K miles.
63 plate 28i 600 miles 1 month from the show room had both rears done 2 weeks ago.

So 3 and a half years on still the same issues.

What is strange 18 months ago when the 10 plate had new ones when I pxed it in May no issues so unsure why the new 62 plate ie less than 6 months old did not have the same if not better lights than the replaced ones 18 months ago. These were cracked not just had water ingress.
