Rear light flashing with indicator??

Hi, new here! 👋

My z4 seems to have got a problem with the rear passenger side lighting unit. When the indicator is on, it causes the main light to flash also??

I have looked at the wiring, no sign of any rust or worn in anyway.

Before I try buying a new light, is there anything I could potentially try to fix the problem?

It does bring up the bulb fault light in the dash but no bulb out?

Thanks in advance for your help 😊

Has someone replaced bulbs with led lights at all?

The lights flash like that as a redundancy feature if the indicator is out.

If the car thinks the bulb is blown or not there it will do that

Maybe check and replace with oem bulbs, clean the contacts up?

Thanks for the response!

So there’s no LED bulbs been installed. What I did notice however, was that the bulb holder for the reverse light is missing on one side. So what I did was swap it over to see if it worked properly with it fitted. No change though.

I’m struggling to find the bulb holder online.

I’ll send a video as soon as I get home so you can see what’s happening.

Thanks again

See if the link above works for you guys
It did.

I may be wrong, but I seem to recall that the position light can flash if the indicator is out. Easy test (to see if I am an idiot!) - take out the right hand side indicator and see if you get both tail lights flashing.

If so then why is it doing it on the left hand side. Swap the indicator bulbs and see if the fault follows.

Okay, I’ll give that a go thanks.

annoyingly I’m away for the week now so will see to it the weekend and confirm if that has worked.

Thanks for the help 😊

Hiya,

So have swapped the bulbs out and the light still flashes. If I removed the indicator from the other side it also flashes. So swapped the bulbs over and the left one is still flashing regardless.
I have bought new bulbs for the light unit and it still does it.

It’s confusing the life out of me

Update… the front near side indicator has 2 bulbs… sometimes they’re both working, others it’s just the one? Could be the problem? Have swapped bulbs there but still goes out?

Yes, the second bulb going out will cause a bulb out warning. By a pair (or 2 pairs to include the other side) and replace them.

Both headlights should have two indicator bulbs. But I wouldn't think it should cause the rear tail light to flash too, though I don't know. So it could be the LCM.
