Rear fog light not working?

My rear fog light is not working? Have checked bulb and all good. Front fogs work fine and get light on dash but nothing when pressing on the rear fog light? Any ideas?

Use a voltmeter or a test bulb on the wire to see if 12v is getting there in the first instance, if it is then check out the bulb holder for corrosion, clean and try again. If not then check out switch with voltmeter and/or test bulb to see if switch is working by connecting to the output side of the switch and seeing if it actually switches the voltage. Check the live side in the same manner to make sure its got power into the switch. If the switch is duff, replace, one of the breakers on here should be able to come up with one if you ask.

Colb thanks for that, will check it all out. I have a feeling it will be the light switch on the dash? I have read that just changing this will cause issues with mileage etc. is there a way to code this out? Cheers

Yes car info is stored on the switch unit so replacement would need coding to the car with its Vin number, NCS expert software should do it

Did you manage to get anywhere with this? It looks like I might have the same issue. I'm trying to find out which is the output from the switch unit so I can test.

Hi, it’s the light switch!!! Got the car in for MOT at a BMW specialists. Was told the switch’s are on back order globally and are approx £400!! They are trying to source a 2nd hand unit for me. Best of luck.

If you mean the LCM, I have one here. Just need to get it coded then.
Think mine is a double adjusting wheel one for halogen lights though?
Can check if it helps?
Oh and I think there are black or grey ones too.

Yeah, it’s the LCM. I have xenon’s on my car, does anyone know if you can use a halogen LCM with xenon’s? Hopefully the garage have sorted one?

Thank you all, I was really hoping for a cheap and easy MOT as I’m going to lose enough on the car anyway. Do you have a part number on you LCM? Mine is 6 936 810.

Thank you for this info. I guess I’ll still need to get it coded. I need one with auto headlights which seems to make it much more expensive.

At work now. I’ll check when I get home

[ref]Adamfoster[/ref], according to the compatability list that Umfaan posted, I have one that will fit your car.
The part number is 9 133 038
It is a black front, it has two dials and it has auto lights.
(I'll get a pic up in a minute or three)
If this suits let me know.
Then possibly contact [ref]colb[/ref], to see if he's worked out how to code it.
A brief google tells me the Scanner 1.4 can turn off the tamper dot, but not sure if there's more to it than that?

[ref]Adamfoster[/ref], here you go.
Only issue I can think of is you say your car is a 2004, so pre-facelift.
Does that have a grey panel?
This one superseded it but only from 2006 (facelift) hence the black?

It’s not difficult to swap the front over if it will work. You say it brings a warning on the dash if it’s changed?

You will get a tamper dot on the dash as it stores vin and mileage. I believe these can be updated to match your car but I have no idea how personally.
If you want to do a bit of research first I’ll hang on to it for you.
