Rear facing dash cam

Has anyone tried fixing a rear facing Blackvue camera to the roll over bar casing? I’m tempted to give it a try but I’m fairly sure it will just blow off with the roof down.

Mike’s, I’ve explored many options with this, including with BMW’s own kit and didn’t come to a satisfactory conclusion. I was mainly looking for all round recordings while parked up away from home. One of the options I’m tentatively considering is attachment to the wind deflector nbit not sure how much vibrations would go through this when driving and ultimately distort the images.

Be interested to see if you come up with a solution. There was a thread I posted on where it was attached to the roll hoops but BMW completely refused to entertain, partly because they said it looked awful and they wouldn’t put their name to it

EDIT: here’s the post I mentioned including a Blackvue attached to the wind deflector

Thanks for the info Andy. My preferred option is to glue the camera to one of the roll over hoops casing. I’ll let you know how I get on. Incidentally which camera do you have?

Mikee I never bought one, I was wanting the BMW one fitted before I picked the car up. They were perfectly happy to fit front facing and warranty etc but I wanted both. I haven’t really done anything since but would like to revisit before the driving season starts again

I’ve actually seen some lovely dash cams, but front facing only.

I saw a lovely one that wouldn’t look too bad, but I just don’t want to pull trim off to hard wire it. The BMW one is very big and very pricey.
Why can’t they just activate drive recorder like on other models?

This is the dashcam I want as I think it would look decent and discreet.

How about drilling a big hole in the boot and mounting the rear camera inside the boot :D

It was actually your incident with your previous car that made me want one for when I left the car anywhere. I was also on a £750+ excess at that time.

One of the blackvue ones had the front and rear camera on the front unit but because of positioning the rear camera pointed into the soft top when the roof was up which defeated the purpose.
