Rear dash cam power supply

Having done some searches on here and also elsewhere, it looks like the best way to get switched (ignition) power to a rear facing dashcam is probably still going to be the cable that goes to the rain sensor.

This means a front and rear cam would be wired in together, then just getting a cable back to a roll hoop - or at least that area. That’s no problem.

I just wanted to check there’s nothing nearer the roll hoop area I could tap into so as to avoid needlessly lifting trim.

The only other option is to not bother with a rear cam, although I can’t help but feel if I’m going to the effort of putting a camera in it’d be nice to have front and rear coverage.

Thanks all

I've been looking into this also. Any information would be great.
Not far from battery and all the wires that are central to that , I would have thought their would be something to tap into.

Where you going to mount it? Can't help thinking the fuse box is a better location even if you have to tuck the wire under the carpet.

I’ve also thought about this since posting. I’m thinking it might be better into a constant live too.

I’m thinking of running the cable behind the windscreen pillar / fuse box, down and behind the plastic trim along the bottom of the door shut, behind the plastic trim with the cubby hole (or speaker) and up inside the roll hoop trim with the unit on the Perspex centre of the roll hoop.

The trim behind the seat looks like a bugger on TIS but I’m hoping I can just pop the outside edge.

What camera is it? There should be at least one empty ACC, IGN, LIVE in the box, you can just use a spade straight into the hot side and add an inline fuse.

thanks, I’ll have to stick my head in soon and have a look.

I’m looking at the BlackVue DR590W-2CH I haven’t pulled the trigger yet as I haven’t done much research. I want to see it in person really as I want pretty small ones.

I am going to assume that will have a LIVE and ACC/IGN feed for continuous and parking modes, so fuse box will be much easier plus there are some good earth points nearby.
