Rear coil spring recommendations

Has anyone bought new rear springs recently?

Just wondering what the current view is on brand/supplier etc. Not too concerned about minor differences in price but replacing with a new set from BMW doesn't seem like money well spent.

'Kilen' is all over Ebay, I see 'Suplex' also used and recommended on these forums albeit the threads are a few years old.

Car is 2003 3.0, so 'with' m-tech suspension (which all the ebay adverts seem to differentiate).

Thanks helpful people :D

Suplex is well rated, seen it come up time and time again on the forum

I was hoping to have a crack at fitting them this weekend, but they haven't arrived yet and the Ebay seller is so far silent. Grrr.

Well, they never arrived - Paypal issue raised, the seller then refunded without any contact.

The company 'Discount car products' aka 'Car parts International', has some fairly bad reviews for exactly this reason.

Same product available at Amazon for a very good price, but delivery stated as anything up to the end of May!!

I've ordered another set from the same seller just for amusement really, as still covered by Paypal - will go direct to Suplex if still no joy, unless anyone can share a supplier around the £90 mark?

I got mine from here: https://autodoc.co.uk. I think they’re German and have web shopfronts in most European countries. I’ve had loads of parts through them.

Nah, quite easy. The main issue is getting the spring in. You need a decent pry-bar and/or a mate to push the control arm down so that there is enough room to get the spring in. Seat the bottom of the spring first and then push the top in. I managed to do it on my own, using a bar and leveraging against the rear subframe and onto a wooden block on top of the knuckle.

2nd order again refunded without explanation - I'd advise people to stay away from Ebay seller 'car_parts_international' - total rubbish :headbang:

3rd time lucky then - ordered a pair of springs from buycarspares.co.uk, £99.56 including delivery. Let's see if they're any better (knowing my luck they'll turn out to be yet another sub company under a different name!)

I'm still waiting for my "car_parts_international" order too - that does not inspire me with confidence. However, I bought a set of 6231 from "buycarspares.co.uk" and they sent me 6230 instead! No luck either way.

Sopers quoted me £235.81 for OEM, collection only due to weight.

Isn't that a load more money for what is generally considered a sub standard part? Genuine question.

Suplex are considered decent however when I fitted them to my car the ride height increased.

I wouldn’t fit them again nor recommend them to anyone. Albeit I also understand that some forum members have fitted them to their Z4s and had no issues.

In disappointment I’ve decided to do a complete suspension overhaul and will be installing KW V2s later this year.

Interesting ta - that's the first negative review I've seen. Assuming I ever get my hands on a set I'll keep an eye on the ride height.
