Guys
Any tips on removing the centre strip that sits above the rear glove box/storage bin?
Looks like the locking mech has broken/stopped working and I need to us a screw driver to gain access.
Have got the bottom , middle released but the top end under the rear windscreen is proving to be a pig :headbang:
I am going to end up breaking something!

Hopefully this pic will help Angus - you need a long screwdriver to push these clips back on either side :

Bit unnerving as you have to bend the console right up. Be very careful else you will break the clips.

That worked Bing. Thanks...... what an awkward job!
Centre locking solenoid was knackered so it has been removed to allow un locked access to the storage. It didn't want to come out so had to make a small mod to a plastic tang to wrestle it out. (picture 2) this allowed sufficient space to release it..... otherwise the whole centre section trim would have to come out :o

TBH it wouldn't have taken much longer to get the main rear section out.

Are you putting a new solenoid back in?

Probably....... When I get some time.
This is the first time I have spent tidying the Z in months (busy with work) so it might have to wait until the winter lay off.
Now that I know how to access the area and done the 'mod' it should be straight forward.
We don't leave any valuables in the car with roof down so its use is limited.

To get the rear consul completely out just take out the two silver torx screws situated at the top, disconnect two electric cables and the string and just pull it out. It basically just snaps back into the fasteners when putting back into place.

Nice informative post mate.

Cheers, tug.
