For a little while now I have been contemplating if to change the look of my car from standard spec to M Sport spec. Whilst I think the M Sport front bumper looks pretty good and better than the standard one I am not so sure about the rear bumper.

To me they look like BMW made them as an afterthought and didn't do a good job. As discussed in another thread there were two version of the rear M Sport bumpers for me I think the version on the 35is edges it but I am still not sure about the M Sport rear overall. Of the three options which design do you favor?

Standard:

M Sport:

M Sport 35is:

As discussed the colour treatment of the two or three parts of each bumper has a major impact on its visual perception…so I think your poll need a multi dimensional aspect :tumbleweed:

Never realised the Standard rear bumper came with two outlets :?

Would love to do a quad pipe mod to mine, but always thought I had to change the bumper for the M-Sport so as to have the removable section.

For simplicity sake kept it to what's available from the factory. Personally I prefer the colour coded bumper of the 35is as it looks less like BMW hacked it to achieve the M Sport trim but from your photos your colour reversal seems to work on your car.

Yep it did on the 35i. If you go for quad outlet and get it done at a capable shop they should be able to trim the bumper to fit the pipes.

Having stared at the rear of two M Sports and a 35is over the years on my drive, I have voted for the 35is. To me it suits the E89 far more, however the exterior colour of the car does have a significant part to play.

In matching colour, I prefer standard. If having contrasting, I prefer the m-sport (having a black e89 myself I can't think what colour difference would work for me)

Thanks for that

I like the clean look of the standard car, but that maybe because I’ve got the M-Sport. Mine is not colour coded (so grey centre panel) but would consider colour matching it as and when I have the rear bumper repainted (altho a recent detail has greatly improved the finish so will save the pennies for now). I’d be interested to see if anyone has added any subtle accents to the bumpers, such as contrast vinyls. Did this to great effect on an Abarth a few years ago, altho maybe the Z4 is a little too grown up for it.

I went std. to sport and back to std.
Sport just too fussy, some cars looks like rear is missing if not colour co-ordinated, then what's the point.
Looks like they have been rear ended.
I prefer old rear but the sport front.

It would be interesting to see how colour coding the 'standard' M Sport bumper will change it's look, I think it would look better but not sure about the vinyls though.

This is the thing, sometimes the M Sport (both variants) look good and at other times (depending on angle, car colour, lighting which way the wind's blowing etc  ) it looks properly hacked! I am sure BMW could have come up with a better design if they had really tried.

I am in the same boat front prefer the M Sport rear not so sure. I know some have changed just the front bumper and left the standard one on the rear but I can't do that, makes the car look half of one and half of another. Either I go M Sport or stick with the standard and either leave it alone or try and come up with some enhancement to give it a bit more aggression.
