Rear bump stops

Quick question chums: I have an MOT advisory for rear bump stops not being attached (or something similar).

Had the car up at the weekend and they look ok. Are they meant to be secured at the top? Have pics if needed.

These are the foam/rubber things that sit on top of the shock and below the top mount?

Not sure why that's even on the MoT, but if they are in place then I wouldn't worry. You could go back to the garage and ask them for clarification...

Yep, those are the ones. Sit on a plastic collar, which they seem to be attached to. Just wondered if this is how they are meant to be as RealOEM doesn't really show it.

Yep they sit partly inside the plastic dust guard. Sort of half in, half out.

That's what made me wonder. They look like they're meant to be like it, not sure if the tester was expecting them to be secure to the top?

The other two were OSR brake pipe corrosion and leaking diff. Diff looks like it's had a bit of a weep but I gather this is common, will clean it up when I have a chance and see if it gets any worse. Didn't bother looking too hard at the pipe!

I just had the same advisory about my rear pipe also, often a wire brush solves that as usually it is SO superficial! Yes I'm wondering if he is misunderstanding the design maybe? I don't think any MOT had picked up on that previously.

No, they slide up and down freely. When the car is on the ground, they will sit against the underneath of the top mount but they are in no way attached. All they do is compress when the shock is compressed far enough so that they absorb some of the energy and stop the shock from bottoming out.

In no way are they an MoT item.

Thanks Stratts, thought I was missing something! I might freshen them up along with the top mounts for the hell of it before the next one!
