Rear Brakes

Hi Guys,

Enjoy the site although this is my first post.

Wondering if you can help with a small question or two?

I have just bought the extended warranty and i understand that i need to have the car serviced at a dealer and am happy with that.

I was told on the phone that items such as brakes could be replaced by anyone as long as i use genuine parts.

Is that right?

My next door neighbour is a mechanic and a very helpful man! I will need some new rear brakes pretty very soon (so BMW said at my MOT) so could i buy the parts off the net at one of the sites recommended on here and get my neighbour to fit them?

I, of course, want to keep costs down but certainly dont want to invalidate my warranty/not look after the car correctly?

Cheers!

Welcome longeytravel

Check the wording of your policy/warranty rather than guessing. New car warranties generally just require servicing to manufacturers standards, but some insurance policies may specify differently.

Thanks Cj10Jeeper.

It is the BMW Warranty.

There is no mention of having things like brakes replaced at BMW just 'Servicing & Warranty' work.

Your book needs to be stamped etc. I guess you dont get your booked stamped when you have brakes replaced?

Then not an issue, fit good quality bits and save some money.
