Rear brake upgrade

Has anyone figured out how to upgrade the rear brakes on an e85 3.0L to the 320mm. I keep reading that it can't be done because of the handbrake?

Looking at pictures of the discs it looks like the 2.5 and below have large centres on the discs (for the shoes) but the 3.0 looks a lot shallower?

I've refurbished a full set of calipers from an E46 330i which I desperately want to get on :)

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
 
Didn’t think it could work. You’ll have to make do with 294mm :(
 
I've just checked with mtec with reference to the internal bore on the rears. There's a 24mm difference between the rear discs. Looks like I refurbished the rears for nothing lol.
I was wondering if hubs and associated bits could be swapped, but it's probably more hassle than it's worth.
Shame as I guess the rear 330i calipers can't be used for the 294mm discs.

I'm sure at zedfest he said he had an issue with upgrading the rears as well?? I might have to ask him again.......... Although, aren't the si rears also 294mm?? It's just the fronts that are 325mm?

Probanly best to ask Jingle or dlv,
 
Don't see the need? 294 is the biggest you can go on the rear (without excessive work as I'm sure no-one's every found a work around). The 3.0 will have the 294 rears as standard. It's just the front you'll be upgrading from 300 to 325mm.
 
Think that's the way it's going to go. Would of been nice for slightly larger discs at the rear, even just to fill the wheel out a bit more.
 
Quick one.....if I put the 330i calipers and carriers on, can I order a set of brake discs and pads for a 3.0si??
 
You can, but you may as well order discs and pads for a 330, as they are the same and usually slightly cheaper.
 
I looked at that, but the discs and pads for the rear of the 330i are 320mm. Which I can't fit to the Z4 (well I could but the handbrake wouldn't work).

Hence seeing if the 3.0si would be ok. 325mm front and 294mm rears (same as my rears already). Buying a full kit works out cheaper than 330i fronts and the Z4 rears.

Jingle upgraded to 294mm on a 2.0 same as me.
 
You said front calipers so i though you meant just the fronts.
Yes you can order a front/rear set for Si, as the E46 fronts are the same as the Si, and the rears are also the same between i and Si.
