rear brake question

I have a 2003 Z4, this morning the rear passenger brake is making a slight grinding noise when coming to a slow stop. The pads appear to have plenty of life in them. My question is this, is there a separate parking brake setup inside the rotor? like a drum and shoe type setup?

TIA

thanks, I suspect that is the problem, I never use my parking brake, and i used it yesterday, now the sound appeared this morning.

Try the bedding in procedure of in effect driving for 100m with the handbrake pulled up firmly but not enough to lock the wheels or stop the car. Repeat that a couple of time and it should clean it up and bed it in. If it's grating then don't do it and strip down to investigate/replace the shoes, although they rarely wear out.
Adjustment is by removing a single wheel bolt although easier to take a wheel off.

Interesting, thought that would have been really bad for the brakes... Wish I had known about that a few months ago as had the rears fully stripped down cleaned and re-assembled due to a similar noise! Fortunately the mechanic is a mate so didnt cost me £££££££££ but if i had taken it to a random indy could have been different

Not bad at all. Proper procedure to bed in new pads and useful to clean up when rusted, lining stuck on drum, etc.

I pulled the e-brake lever a few times and that seems to have fixed it, must have been a little stuck.

Every once in a while it's recommended to apply the handbrake for the last couple of mph when coming to a stop.
