Rear brake pipe advisory

Had my car in for its mot today, passed but with an advisory of corroding rear brake pipes & they advised to replace them all.
Anyone had this done recently? How long does it take & does the fuel tank have do come out?

Got the mot done at the steallers (had a voucher) so got a quote off them £721.58 :rofl:
 
Head to Ducklakeview and get him to do an entire set for about £550 cheaper! They probably just need a clean though...
 
Some of the pipes at the back end are a bit difficult to get at and you need to take the wheels off to get a good view. Mine had an advisory but it turned out to be just a build up of crud coming off the wheels. A clean up, then spray with white grease (doesnt wash off easily) and they were fine. However on high mileage cars I think corrosion on brake pipes can be an issue.
 
If you're in reach of Ducklakeview, drop him a pm and get some copper pipes to replace the corroded steel ones. At a much more attractive price without dropping the tank.
 
Thanks for all the advise, they provided a video & to be fair they are corroded but I will get under & clean them up to see How bad they are.
Cars not going anywhere soon so probably will want to get them done. I'll look into getting some copper ones ready to get fitted. :thumbsup:
 
Definitely worth a trip to Ducklakeview - you'll save a fortune!

He replaced mine in copper last year, and cut me a flip-style key while I was there. :thumbsup:
 
I had both my rear pipes swapped due to the same issue. Less than £100 at my local Indy (like for like, not the more resilient copper replacements).

That was cheap!

My usual BMW Indy was talking about fitting OEM ones which are pre-formed so would have meant dropping the fuel tank to get the O/S/R one in place (it goes across between the tank and the rear bulkhead) but as he is ex-Sytner I suppose he would want to do it that way!

Using copper dlv was able to feed it through the mounts then form the ends afterwards.

This year's MOT tester was very complimentary about how it had been done - which I took as good news given that he gave me an advisory for the originals last year! :lol:
