Rear brake pads

Hi

Just wondering what people's thoughts are on rear brake pads for the ///M?

Have EBC yellows up front and they are fine and work very well for my needs.
The light has come on and I know I need to replace the rears.

I can get EBC yellows for the rear for around 70 quid but not sure it it's worth it?

I have seen Pagid, ATE and Bosch and Textar pads on Eurocarparts for anything between 39 and 52 quid.

Thoughts from your experiences please? Ideally I want to buy them tomorrow and fit Sat AM

I have Yellowstuff all round and they work well. As I see it, having the same pads all round preserves the inherent brake biasing where the rear brakes do their pre-calculated share of the work and helps to prevent front end pitching if the front brakes, only, are uprated.

Depends on the compound but as a general rule for road use that's correct.

If you're using something very aggressive for the front, which needs more heat to operate properly, the inherent front bias of the brakes will mean that (on track for example) the front brakes will brake with even more power than the rears exasperating the front end pitch as the rears will not be able to get up to temperature as fast or even at all. In that case a compound that might not* have as high a maximum coefficient of friction as the fronts but a lower optimum operating temperature will be best for the rears. Needs experimentation and far more experience than i have to get it right but this has been confirmed to me by several knowledgeable people and even a brake pad company.
 
Textar make Porsche OEM pads (usually) and are pretty good.

For road use the OEM-spec Pagids that ECP sell work very well in my experience (though I haven't used them on the M).

I have Pagid RS29 all round and just bought a new set, but a bit pricy.
 
Thanks for your feedback guys - I wanted to do them tomorrow and given the 25% discount at ECP went for the Pagid pads and sensor. I ideally wanted the yellow stuffs and will prob replace again in a while - but my only opportunity for a while to do this is going to be tomorrow - so made this decision

Just a word on ECP - if you go to http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/ - they are owned by ECP. You will find that their prices are the same or maybe slightly cheaper than ECP, but you don't need the discount codes.... In fact when I ordered my brake bits there was an extra discount if you spent more than £100, so ended up being a fair bit cheaper than ECP :thumbsup:
 
Have fun Jamie - never done the rears but completed the fronts on the zed and m3 before that.

Madrussian has an excellent DIY guide for the M3 that should pretty much fit the zed.
 
Just to tag onto this, how do people find yellow stuff on the road? How are they from cold?

They're great at all times. I'm even running brake cooling ducting to the front discs so my front brakes will be cool for most emergency stops and no problem with stopping at any time.
 
Ga41- haha, thanks. Did it during a few quiet moments at work. If only it was always like that! Yours is nice too, looks like a good road!

They sound ideal in that case exdos, good to know they're not heavily compromised. I think I may try a set when I change the discs.
