My rear pads need doing and car is in for a service next week....dealer wants £320. Shall I get them done elsewhere and what's the saving above a dealer?

Thanks

Should be much less with an Indy. Call around for quotes. Surprised you aren't just getting one of the man-servants to do it though :poke:

Nickm, is the £320 for the service and brakes or just the brakes? and how many miles has the car done?

Car has done 21k....just for brakes, car is service inclusive.....

:o Brakes after 21K!!!, okay you use your brakes more because of the DCT, but my goodness that's quite a short time. Either they make them like that or you wear those divers boots to drive around town.

As for £320

 for somebody that used to have their RR wheels refurbished every month surely, as others have said, you don't need to worry?!

Had the same sort of quote and my 35i has done 25k.

Taking mine to B&M independent place near Pudsey, Leeds, it's identical price for parts but labour is £25 + vat. So total ends up about £145 instead of BMW's £270!

BTW it's not a job to do at home apparently. Seems car has to connect to computer to release the pads?

Got the car back after this, and am very pleased with B&M's service.

Genuine BMW parts used, inc pads and sensors, service light reset and now says rear pads now due in 25000 miles. Car washed and all for over £100 cheaper than BMW. They stamped my service book too.

Recommended if your near Pudsey/Leeds.

Well just had my second service at 37,000 smiles, brakes don't need replacing after all, in fact was told that they are hardly worn and have at least another 40,000 miles in them.....

So Nickm, don't know how you drive but you really use your brakes a lot

I do brake pretty hard and late....I'll admit to that. After I changed them, idrive said 19K till next set

I change front pads every 9-10k and rears every 14-15k. What do i win?

Nick, where did you get them done in the end?

Okay before anyone says it I don't drive like an old lady!

However I was taught to look ahead as far as you can see and drive accordingly, so if I'm doing 60 ish and see that the speed limit reduces to 40 mph, I ease off the gas and engine brake to the speed limit, same with a junction, just use my brakes to come to a complete stop.

Oh and while were on the subject, next service is in 16,000 miles (53,000 total) will probably be my last free one and they will then change the spark plugs :o Brake fluid will be changed in March at 2 years. So possibly 4 services for £300.00, think that is quite a bargain really.

Got mine done from the dealer in the end....little did I know there was a specialist in Ealing that could have done them. I will use them next time.
