rear brake disc advice

My front discs were replaced under warranty but the rears are looking pretty worn now. Are people generally fitting OEM or alternative discs and pads?

Seems the discs in a Z are of good quality, the next best thing is to upgrade the pads & calipers but this can start to cost serious cash. If you go for drilled & grooved discs, be aware you will eat pads quicker than the stock items.

However, you might like to look at this... EBC Red Stuff pads, as (a) they don't have metal in them to leave that horrible brake dust (b) this ceramic compound works from cold as well as standard & bites harder as they warm up

This is where I've found them the cheapest:

and a decent set of rear discs (Mintex) though the guy has just put the price up from £36 to £49...

The oem discs are fine, buy them from bmwminiparts.com, they were the cheapest place when I was looking.

My local preparator did tell me that the disks were of good quality (thickness and diameter) :) . Pads are like chocolate though. If you do regular trackdays, are fairly experienced and are super carefull not to overheat, then its worth a change to braided lines and Pagids etc. In labour hours it's still expensive but 1/4 of a BBK from APR etc.
