Rear B4's fitted

Still got the fronts to do, ordered sachs by mistake, grrr.

I fitted rears yesterday with new top mounts. My shocks are the original msport ones and top mounts probably original too. Car is 2006 on 80k.
First impressions, the annoying knock has gone, winnner! Went for a quick bez round the peaks and have to say the turn in, grip and stability is massively improved. The rear is firmer over bad surfaces but not crashy, it's much more controlled. Worth pointing out that the B4's are exactly the same length and shaft stroke as the originals despite being listed for the standard chassis so I don't see what the issue is with fitting them to msport cars.

Anyway, hope this is useful to someone, looking forward to doing the fronts now!

The only logical reason you could have a problem with B4's is if you use very low springs, the shorter spring could come out of it's seat on full suspension droop, the shorter shock would prevent this, otherwise I fail to see how there could be an issue, the suspension movement in bump is limited by the bumpstops.

aye from what i understood b4's were a slightly upgraded version of the stock shocks.

replaced my shocks allround with them a few months back when the stock fronts had blown

B4s are OEM equivalent, B6s are uprated dampers for standard springs, and b8s are uprated dampers for lowered springs :)

New dampers always feel heaps better than tired old ones - iirc the e46/z4 dampers are pretty much done by 50k so it stands to reason pretty much every z4 could benefit from replacements!

There's a lot of talk about b4s not being suitable for sport springs though because they are lower than standard. I'm just saying that this doesn't appear to be the case.

I have a 2007 coupe se with 62000 and standard springs and shocks. I would like to lower just a little so if I was to fit the eibach springs, which shocks would be best to fit with these- b4, b6 or b8. I do like the more compliant ride of the Se system ( and dare I say it, probably better for UK roads) but would like it to sit a little lower and as my shocks are probably not as firm as new now, what would people recommend for the replacement shocks? I won't be doing any track work.

Ideally you want the b8 because as mentioned above, suspension droop comes into effect. Alternatively, get msport equivalent springs and b4 or b6.
