alright so i was having a bit of a good morning spirited drive, came around a corner to find out that the pavement is pretty slick in that area  ended up sliding all the way over to the curb and bashing the rear wheel against it.. front seems to have escaped any harm although my steering is crooked now. so just wondering what the best and worst case scenarios are here as the dealer cant get me in till next week for a full diagnostic

as you can see in the photo i now have a reverse camber on my rear wheel

Bent a tie rod probably, hence the crooked steering. Also means the tyres/wheels will be out of alignment so I wouldn't drive it much until its been looked at.

i think orginalguvnor / steve did the same, although at higher speed

maybe worth PM'ing him?

Ah, just read it again, you bashed the rear wheel not the front. Which means the reason your steering is out is because a rear suspension component is bent, meaning your cars driving crabbed presently... again, don't use it too much, and get it checked out at a garage asap unless you're good with that sort of thing.

Here are your options http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BT52&mospid=47797&btnr=33_1139&hg=33&fg=30

I figure its likely part 5, thats quite a common one to go if you've whacked the rear wheel, but it really could be anything on there you've bent.

Was about to say the same thing, they're readily available used on ebay too. That part controls the positive/negative camber, since the photo has soo much positive, that part will more likely be bent.

had a good look under the car once i knew what i was looking for, and sure enough the lower control arm is wadded up pretty good. just ordered a new one. appreciate the help gents!

No worries, glad I could help. Once you fit the new arm, be sure to get the rear alignment checked anyhow as you never know what else could have been knocked out...
