Ready to buy

Hi to all...... I'm no stranger to forums - have relied heavily on one in the past! New to this one, however, and need to get some feedback. I'm looking to buy a Z4 for my wife's daily journey plus weekend car for us both. We're used to higher spec models and would appreciate some pointers for buying. Seems roof motors need to be "dry" and all the door electrics must be tested. I'm no stranger to a good toolkit and have executed many repairs to a range of vehicles over the years.
All I need is a few words from the wise to set me in the right direction. I'm 61 and my wife is 55 - so we're not looking to push the limits.... but we do like a car with plenty in reserve and one that makes the longer journey fun!
We're replacing a Saab 9-3 ragtop... and that's a Saab, not the later GM Vectra replacement. I've loved the minimal work required on this car - the build quality is superb.... but it's time to move on! Naturally, we have our ideas but owners' opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance......

Steve

Id say a coupe but sounds like your after a roadster. From my experience of buying i tried most of the engine options before deciding on a coupe and the 3.0si engine was by far and away the best. Same fuel usage as the 2.5 but loads more in reserve as you said.

Hi and welcome, wise choice in choosing the roadster. The 2.0i give the most issues, for that reason I would go for the 6 cyl models.

Never heard of issues with door electrics, so not sure where you got that from.

How much power/torque does the Saab have?

Many thanks for your responses.
We've gone for a six-pot. My wife was soooo impressed with a couple of 3.0 models we viewed/tested...... but we found a 2004 2.2iSE with 27k on the clock - a 2 owner car which checked out as genuine. Hard to ignore! As I said in the opener, we don't need a rocket.... just something that will respond when we're in "fun" mode!
I've repaired my own cars all my motoring life - and those of a few friends along the way - so there's not much that will phase me! The "practical" car is a Rover 75 Tourer with the M47R engine..... it's done 162k and more than half in my ownership. It's sold me on BMW engines! As I said before, I value forums - they combine a community with a valuable source of information.
We've got a long run early next month and I'll be servicing the car before we go, hoping all is well. Thanks again for the contributions..... I hope this is a long relationship!

Congratulations, sounds like it ticks all the right boxes. Nice low miles too! Can't wait to see some pics. What colour is it?

Once again, thanks to everyone who's taken time to contribute. I'm an old-timer on my other forum and know the value of communities like this. Yep, Marlon - I'll post some pics soon... would have been tonight if the phone software worked! Maybe I'll go for the Nikon interface instead! She's a grey (I've seen it referred to as gunmetal but not sure if that the proper name) black leather and wood trim to the dash and centre console. It's my wife's daily drive and she has travelled to and from work in the rain every day since we bought the car.... this afternoon the sun was shining - it was worth every penny to see the smile on her face when I got home!

Welcome to te exclusive 2.2 club! Great wee ace you have there! Your colour will be sterling grey- best colour IMHO.
