Ready for the winds?

Well I just did the standard commute from Surrey to Birmingham - M25, M40, M42, M6.

It is safe to say bricks were laid on the M40 when my visibility literally suddenly dropped to the one cats eye in front of the Z's bonnet and the lights of the car in front... and that was everytime the wipers went across, was pretty much driving blind.

Luckily it didn't last more than 2 minutes as one was bricking it.

I survived though!

Just watching Sky News try and make the storm sound bad, and failing miserably, to justify all the hype beforehand.

Agreed. Bit of rain here and only a breeze. May be its still coming.

I don't doubt it's been a strong gale but they way this has been hyped by the media you'd think it was a full strength hurricane not a fairly typical autumn gale. We used to get this sort of storm regularly most October/Novembers. I remember regularly needing to replace roof slates, fencing etc after these storms.

The cynic in me also thinks the storm has taken on more importance in the media because of its path over the South East.

It's rather worrying that the media can whip the nation in to such a frenzy so easily.

You're a mind reader!?!

how was the great gusts of 2013 then? the little bush by the window kept me awake all night rustling and its a bit wet up here....

They are trying to claim on BBC news that it's only just arriving here in Kent & up in Anglia now. It's a bit gusty, but there's some lovely blue sky out there, no rain :|

Most vexingly it would appear the fuchsia in my back garden has taken a battering :x

Lots of trees down in London - shock, horror, call in the army

My (lightweight) garden chair was tipped over. Oh and its a bit wet. :|

Storm? Pffffft.

lots of leaves and twigs all over the garden....Drive to work absolutely fine.

I'm sure some people have been affected quite badly, but for the most part nothing but the usual media sensationalism.

Just like this story, which really irritated me:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2469197/Two-transatlantic-Boeing-747S-nearly-crash-pilots-failed-follow-instructions.html

The planes were not 100ft away from disaster, they were ~4 miles away from disaster. Nothing but irresponsibly inaccurate and sensationalised reporting.

That's ridiculous. By that definition the airspace above and around London must be a constant disaster area

Thank god and all that is holy. Can't tell you how worried I was.

We're running a BCP/DR test this week and I've just had a call from one of the guys at our recovery centre near Old Street tube and he said that about 40 yards of coping stones (he said they're 2-3ft long and 2-3" thick) have been stripped off the block of luxury flats opposite and ended up on the cars parked in the street below...

...I doubt if it'll polish out

A total non event here in the east midlands. It rained a bit in the night, the lane down the road which usually floods is still open, and my narrow boat is still floating.
