Reading the oil level on 2003 3.0 Z4

Hi,

As much as it pains me to ask this stupidly simple question, can anyone describe how to correctly check the oil level on the older 3.0 engine.

The picture in the manual doesn't show the same type of dipstick. Mine has what could best be described as two small notches cut out of it ~ 1cm apart. So far I think this may be the min and max marks but I would like to check you you guys first! Its not a big difference between the marks and if testing a few minutes after shutdown the stick smears a bit and makes it more tricky to read.

:?

Thanks in advance!

Adam.

ps. Updated with picture.

IIRC, bottom notch (smaller notch) = min; top notch = max. Difference between min/max is ~ 1 litre.

You have to pull the dipstick out, wipe it off, then put the dipstick back in. Pull it out again and then you can do your reading (must be between the notches). Results will be correct if your oil is at operating temp when your engine is off.

Cheers!
