reading air bag fault

I changed the steering wheel for a MFSW and on removing the wheel pulled the slip ring apart (I had missed a connector).
As I needed the car I had to put the wheel back and reconnect the battery which obviously triggered the light.
I replaced the slip ring and took it to two Indies but both couldnt cancel the light.
A mate has a 2003 E46 and bought a coder called a B800 or something similar.
This allowed him to interrogate and identify the fault (passenger seat mat) and fit a bypass.
He tried the coder on the Z4 but it wouldnt read.
Q. can you buy a coder that will read Z4 codes?
Can anyone suggest a fix.
Both indies said it was right rear pillar or something along those lines
Is this an MOT failure and if so can I remove the light or prevent it illuminating?
Thanks
Russ

no idea about the diagnostic tool, but it will be a MOT failure as far as I understand. you cannot remove the light as the lights have to come on when you start the engine and then go off!

hope you can get it sorted cheap and quickly

I had this exact same problem with a MFSW changeover and had to go to an indy to reset the airbag light.

Bizarrely when he scanned on Autologic the fault code was listed under steering wheel he cleared the code the light remained on. Swapped to another program called Wow! (Wurth diagnostics) which found the fault code as being within one of my side airbags?! Apparently the modules are not a logically placed and it's worth having a root around similar software areas to find the problem.

Cost me £20 back in Suffolk.

Dis v57 is BMW software which you can get on eBay for £20 - £30 with cable.
Do a search on google or this forum and there is lots of info on it as well as SSS v32 and NCSexpert. All relevant software to code z4.

What am I missing? You fit a new wheel which trips the airbag light, but diagnosis suggests it to be passenger seat sensor? Why? Doesn't make sense that you decide to fit a bypass, and think about pulling bulbs, unless there is more to this?

Few diagnosis tools can reset the airbag light. DIS as mentioned may work, else Indy or dealer to reset it.

I confused things when I mentioned a friend bought a coder which worked on his E46. Thgis found an issue with the seat and he fitted a bypass bought on ebay which worked.
My issue was caused by me being a numpty when I removed the steering wheel
Two indies found the same faulty, side airbag. Perhaps the suggestion using a differnt program may work?
Im on my way to Coventry Friday from Portsmouth, any Indies on the way who know Z4 and how to remove tripped airbag lighhts?

i've delt with that to when i replaced my window powering,

head to the local bmw dealer, they cleared mine. my car has been on 3 different car computer like bosch etc. non of them could resset the light, the dealer did it.

z4 use a more modern system so require an actual pc and software to remove the light. easiest is INPA to install and run. where abouts do u live cos there is a few ppl on this forum with the equipment that can help ya

Im in Fareham between Fareham and Portsmouth.
Would be great if someone was near who had an idea how to cancel this.
Doing a Ebay INPA software search brings up a raft of possibilities.
Any that people can recommend?
Cheers

i would go for something like this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-USB-Diagnostics-OBD-Cable-Interface-lead-Ediabas-Inpa-GT1-DIS-/110882363672?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item19d11a9918
got to be careful as a standard cable has to be modified

have a look here and see if anyone is near you
