re Wing mirror glass

Hi there.
The glass on the passenger side mirror has de laminated or something, gone a weird purple colour. Anyone managed to find replacement glass either oem or after market for a reasonable price. its a heated wing mirror. I have looked online but it is hard to see if it is actually the right part. Cheers in advance
 
Sounds like you have auto dimming glass.

Does your mirror look like the one on the left or right?

the one on the right. It has a rubber trim around it. Didn't know they did an auto dim one. Never noticed it on this car. It is a 2005 E85 soft top.
 
Passenger side mirror with auto dim is Part Number 51167177125

Don't look at eBay! I did and nearly fell off my chair!!
 
New is far too expensive (£300ish) and second hand is hard to find in good condition but around £100.

You can replace it with normal glass but you'll need the heat pad if you want heated glass still. The heat pads are quite expensive new but come with the glass but they are £87 to £113 for genuine.

Part number: 51167112583 for wide angle & 51167112585 for flat.

You can buy aftermarket for around £25 ish with a heat pad but they fit differently by just pushing on. Easier to find by searching for the E81 1 series.

Won't a genuine heated mirror glass (without auto dim) fit in the same way?
Finding a secondhand one of those could be the answer?

Yes you can fit a second hand genuine Z4 mirror glass with heat pad :thumbsup:

I hadn't noticed that either. I wish everyone would put at least a vague description of where they are on the 'Location' info.
