Re-sealing Headlights using Butyl

Hi Everyone,

I’ve had the well documented issue of condensation and a decent amount of water in one of my headlights. I was wondering if I should be re-sealing the light with Butyl I.e. sealing between the clear plastic cover and housing, using the oven method. Or is it more likely that the water is coming from the rear bulb replacement seal?

The water will be coming in through the bulb access panel. Flip the seal over in its groove and put a thin smear of silicon grease on it before closing back up.
The headlights on the zed cannot be split by heating the adhesive. It is sealed with some sort of RTV rather than a butyl rubber goo. In theory that RTV seal is unlikely to have failed.

Just bought a new pair of headlight covers from Soper of Lincoln for £25. For the damage the water may cause, it's a reasonable price to pay.

I had some condensation starting in one of my headlights over a year ago. I took the rear cover off, took the seal out and put some clear silicone around the groove and let it set overnight. Next day I refitted the seal and stuck the cover back on. Not had any problems since.
