re-mapping the 177bhp N52 2.5i ?

Hi - anyone have any experience of mapping this particular engine?

I've seen a few garages now who are quoting it to go from 177 to 197 & from 230NM to 265NM- im happy with that power increase but in the real world does it make much difference? Would just like it to pull harder from low revs in higher gears more than anything!

THanks in advance :)

Jamie

I've been quoted £225,

I've had around 20 M54 engined cars, where i'd never map one of those as the BHP increase is marginal, but for 20-bhp i think i'll give it a go, just was looking for someone who's actually took the plunge!

Well in theory a free flowing exhaust (plus revised airflow and cams) in conjunction with a remap could make the 2.5i N52 be equal to the 2.5si (215 bhp)

but forget dyno as its subjective and only good for pub talk.. a remap could make the power delivery smoother.. for a better drive.

But imo i wouldnt bother remapping an NA car... just isnt worth the overhead considering the cost + you'd have to declare it to the insurance company - which my insurance company charge you the same premium for upto 25% power increase.

spoke to the insurance company this morning, its £30 extra plus the £225 for the map. Just over £250 for a 20 bhp increase, you don't think its worth it?

The advantage of the remap is the power delivery over the extra (claimed bhp) + you could get the throttle tweaked... a bit like what the sport button (which i presume yours doesnt have) does - so makes it feel faster and more urgent - so ignoring the bhp improvements - £250 might be worth it for that alone!

The insurance on my car went up £30 too (on my TT)- but i've gone from 272 to 363!

yes definatley Aquazi, i would pay £250 for a sport button esque feeling i crave from my previous 3.0 coupe!

Will report back with my findings!

Ah, didn't know you were from around these parts - cool. We're often travelling on the A6 up Garstang road to pick up Junction 32 on the M6 and blast up to the Lakes or Arnside for the day :driving: Will keep an eye out for you too :)

That sounds great! Would be definitely interested in that! Where abouts are you from? I live in Farington Just outside Preston.

its a company called Promap in cheshire mate, Although they were burgled over the weekend & stole all their stuff so i might have to re-think it now :(

Ive used these guys at least 10 times & always had great results http://www.remapuk.co.uk/
They will come to you for a generic map or you can go to them where they have a rolling road
I always opt for the generic , noticeably different on poke & throttle response
PM me if interested & i'l put you in touch , you'd have enough change to buy a set OEM tailpipes as well

thats good to know mate. I'd like to go to them to have it rolling roaded before and after (just for showing off purposes really!) will be in touch when i'm back form Cofru :)

sounds like a big gain on an NA engine....not sure I would believe they would extract 20BHP that easily on an NA... but if they can well worth it.

last NA car i had mapped increased about 3bhp but the drive-ability improvement was significant as it had horrendous flat spots and a harsh rev limit

the 2.5Si comes with 217bhp & its the same N52 engine as mine, so i can belive it :) but know what you mean, most NA engines struggle to make any gains whatosever :)
