Re-mapped N20 engines

I did say to Will at the start that I wanted to keep the map in the safe zone but I am more than happy with the results and now I need to start looking at improving the handling and like you will probably wait until the spring until I get it sorted. If you could pick up a Supersprint exhaust system you won’t regret it but they are an assault on the wallet I’m afraid. Be good to see what Will manages to squeeze out of your car.

I’ll certainly be posting my results, new plugs and coils have been installed in readiness and Shell v-power is my chosen fuel. Taking into consideration PBondar’s comments and thoughts in connection with his remap, decat pipe and bigger turbo, my preference is improved drivability with a strong torque curve over out and out bhp/nm numbers. My Z4 is an automatic which according to others on this forum works well with the remap.

Still waiting for the de-cat pipe from Italy. Spoke to Will this evening, Supersprint have started manufacturing the pipes again but I’m well down the list, apparently the first 12 off the production line are off to a well known German car tuner. Probably early November?

Great news Pete via the other thread that the Supersprint has arrived and the remap can go ahead before Christmas 👍👍👍

So finally had my red zed remapped after a long delay waiting for a decat pipe to arrive from Italy.

Had a chat with Will, owner of Performance Torque Wolverhampton yesterday and prior to the installation of the decat pipe and remap. Will has an incredible knowledge and experience of remapping particularly when it comes to BMWs and the N20 engine. Having read with interest the remapping experiences that PBondar, Boltz, Mack and others have shared on this forum, I asked Will to focus on improving the drivability rather than delivering as big a BHP gain as possible.

My 2016 20i MSport runs on Shell V-Power and the plugs and coils were replaced less than 1,000 miles ago in prep for the remap. I picked the car up this evening and as it was raining lightly and traffic heavy, I haven’t had much opportunity to boot the car but did manage to accelerate hard off a couple of roundabouts on the A38 between Birmingham and Lichfield. In sports mode accelerating hard from 25-70mph it felt incredibly fast, it’s a completely different car and certainly puts a smile your face. Can’t wait to take it for a blast on some of my favourite roads in daylight and dry conditions.

Anyway, I’m sure you’ll be wanting to know what the torque and BHP figures are so below is the graph.

Excellent..is your’s a manual or auto?

I’m surprised at how remarkably consistent these engines are in their response to being tweaked.. :driving:

You’ll find it a revelation I’m sure..

So you’ve got a de-cat plus different exhaust? How does it sound so far?

Hi PBondar, my zed is an auto with a standard exhaust and Supersprint decat pipe. The decat pipe sounded more throaty, hard to get a proper feel for it with the roof up, a new performance exhaust would be great although my focus in the new year will be on a suspension upgrade.
Regards,
Pete

All noted..yes you need to enjoy it, IMHO it will draw attention to some of the chassis limitations..

A Bilstein B8 set of shocks on your existing MSport springs will yield a very noteworthy improvement..again IMHO

After that it’s more expensive for smaller gains..uprated ARBs, M3 steering / suspension parts etc

Pete ,
Nice Christmas present for you!!!! Very similar results to mine. Problem now is Pbondar is now going to cost us more money in suspension upgrades 😂

I also recommend the Quaife limited slip diff for those whose Santa can carry the weight!

Major improvement with a re-map..no spinning wheels, well not much..great way to boot full throttle mid corner and not die..

Agree with diff upgrade as I need Santa to hopefully bring me some new underpants as badly soiled old ones due to mid corner near death experiences😩

The B12 kit is pretty aggressive on lowering and spring rate.. you may find it a tough ride unless you live in Billiard Table Town.

B6s with existin MSport springs is a great compromise..if you want to break your back you can always change the springs later (You do have a MSport variant?)

Hi,
Pete I'll have to disagree with you on the B12 kit. When I fitted mine to replace my 70k M Sport suspension I did expect to be trading some ride comfort for improvements in handling but was pleasantly surprised by the results. I posted about it at the time for anyone interested in going down this route, its well worth it and a major improvement over standard.

General opinion on this forum is that the B12 suspension package works really well on the e89 by reducing body roll without compromising ride quality. Autodoc had a 27% off sale yesterday so definitely worth a punt.

I bow to the body politic’s opinions on the matter.

In my defence I can say that B8s with MSport springs and updated ARBs seem ok too! :driving:

Pete do you have both front and rear arbs? Did you go down the Eibach or H&R route? Any drop link issues, I've read these can be a problem.
