Re Map or superchip for 2.0

Thanks ESP, that's me convinced, I'll put the cash towards buying new unmisted fog lights and getting my wheels powder coated instead! I love mine as it is, K and N filter (thanks Cyberface), Redex injector cleaner and new spark plugs. Sa...weeeeet!
 
Weren't 06 2.0i engines only 147bhp out the box also.
I went to a local rolling road day and called BS after I saw the first car a 03 350Z made 325bhp with a few breather mods. My friends stock 120bhp Elise then made 150+ which we knew can't be right and after checking the print out proved the rolling road was telling porkies.
They can be easily fixed to help those who think adding an exhaust and filter will add 1000bhp.
Without seeing graphs it's all pub talk.
 
well thanks everyone for the comments and advice, sounds like ill be doing the same as Geezah, Redex injector cleaner and new spark plugs. might have a look at the lightweight wheels to but depends on prices, if its worth the extra.
 
An average of 10% more horsepower is more or less what you will get with a remap. But there are other affordabe things you can do nowadays (except for swapping your car to another one with a bigger engine). Removing the mid muffler, replacing the endmuffler with a better flow model, replacing the catalytic converters with racing kind (100 cells or 200 cells), better intake system, remap and a better crankshaft could give you 30 to 40 bhp more. Everything except the crakshaft is quite cheap for the extra power you may get. You might get the car up to 180 or 190 bhp. If you want more, you can look into turbo systems, but that could impact the lifespan of the engine.
 
If only we could get 10% more power with just a remap Bad_Pritt! That'd be 30+ hp on an M! Who needs a CSL engine! :rofl:

You will get 22 bhp extra on the Z4M with standard 343 bhp, but you will get 15 bhp extra on a 2.0 with 150 bhp standard...

ROFL, the "illustrative" graphs they show don't even have the torque and power plots crossing at the right point ... I'd take their offering with a rather large grain of salt ...
 
erm... I had mine remapped there... :poke:
they are quite well-known in Belgium too.
Here's my graph, which I also saw on the monitor when they were checking the result on the dyno.

I have 170 bhp standard. My air filter added 1,4 bhp to that. The remap gave me 184,8 bhp or an increase of 15bhp, exactly as stated on their website:

There is no reason to doubt them.

Well, I can't make sense of those graphs at all - the red lines cross but the black lines do not, except at very low revs. I assume black is before and red after? Nevertheless, I would have two questions:

1. Was that a chassis dyno (I.e. rollers)? If so where is the coast down part of the graph? Without that you cannot accurately assess the drive train losses, and thus arrive at a meaningful engine figure;
2. Was there a hurricane going on at the time? Atmospheric pressure of 944 mb is incredibly low.
 
This topic is about the 2.0lt 4cyl Z4,
The 2.2lt M54 engine is a 6cylinders so isn't relevant.
 
Regardless of engine size, I'm struggling to read the chart also, I thought torque and hp always crossed at 5252 rpm based on T=HP*5252/RPM :?

It may be something to do with the graph using Nm (for torque) and PS (pferdestarke I think, for power), however, I'd still expect the before and after graphs to be comparable.
 
Snake oil and smoke and mirrors, they're not getting their greasy paws on my wedge. Me done bizniz wiv it!
 
at least brad has got before and after curves. i always laugh when people show a torque curve for a session with just the "after" one on and go from a quoted before figure and some how they gain 40bhp.
 
In any case, the remap was worth it for me as they also adjusted the throttle response. It now responds more quickly when I put my foot down. :-)
