Re-fitting drain plugs-

Hi all is it necessary?-i managed to wriggle my hand up through the bottom slot and pull it off  -got some muck out of it,but because its a confined space i cant seem to fit it back :headbang: -as i have said before i cant remove the wheel arch cover because it goes under the car and is fixed with plastic rivets(unless i wreck the rivets)-but really what is the point of them?

Andy, I did mine this morning.

If you have just pulled the rubber grommet thing off, get your hand back under there and pull on the collar, as that too comes out. Attach the grommet to the collar and then replace the collar, which is much easier.

Mmmm, you've pulled the collar out too, that should go in easy, but then I did have the trim removed.

Are you 100% sure yours is riveted? The bottom nut is right in a corner and you have to get your head under the sill to locate it. 8 & 10mm socket are required. 3 nuts in the arch and one under the sill.

I really can't see what harm it will do to leave it out, the bottom of the drain is to well hidden and so far from the top to worry about spray going up.

Tbh -i cant see the point of the bloody things-the size of the tube going to a cross slit-its obvious its going to get clogged FFS! :headbang:

Sounds iffy to me? I mean, why 3 nuts and 1 rivet on the same panel, surely they'd all be one or the other?

I've Just looked under mine and can see the plastic rivets. The nut you need to remove is in a recess near the little mudflap thingy. Right up in the corner and on it's own.

I have the 3 fittings in the wheel arch,a philips head screw underneath at the far end of the bracket and a plastic rivet headed fitting nearer the sill?-can anyone confirm theirs is like this on an 06 facelift?
Thanks

Thanks mate-just had a look -i cant believe how i missed it!

Now that andy as better access, the question of why replace it is somewhat moot, but I'm curious. Why replace it? It's one more spot for debris to lodge.

Let's not forget that the tube communicates directly to the passenger compartment, albeit to a remote portion. You could get a bit more noise with the roof up. It would be possible for insects to crawl up the tube and take up residence inside the car. I don't think there's a big problem leaving it off, but I'm still checking the drains either way, so I'm going to keep replacing it. I hate insects. :?

I cant seem to win,my socket set seems to have a bevelled recess on the smaller sockets, the nut i need to undo is very narrow in thickness,so does not reach into the socket far enough! :headbang: :headbang: -i hate to use pliers etc,as this will just chew it up,bit tight to get a normal spanner on it.

PM appears to be stuck in outbox, so........

Yep, pull from the arch, with a tug upwards once past the 3 threads sticking out. There's a locating lip of the bottom. It'll make perfect sense once off. Then a doddle to replace.
