Drove the car yesterday. Didn't miss a beat. Just gone out to move it from the garage. Wont start. Starter motor not trying. All the right lights re coming on and going off, fuel pump etc I can hear. Not a thing. Battery is kept topped up with ctek. Any ideas. Just going to voltage check the battery and I have a plug in code reader but its very strange.

So I have 2 codes showing but not sure if these would stop it starting.

Sorry I've posted this in the wrong place. Meant to put it in e85 problems. Can one of the Mods move it please. Thanks in advance.

Try giving the starter motor a tap with a hammer. They do stick sometimes.
Ok Thanks. I can't believe I am hitting my car with a hammer. Quick question. If starter was stuck would it not blow a fuse or does a relay just drop out.

If you are sure your battery is good then it will either be the solenoid on the starter sticking or the ignition switch contacts. The solenoid is pretty tricky to get to directly with a hammer so you will prob need to put a piece of 2x2 wood or similar up against it... see here... https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=94402

Update . Well hammer time did not work. Well I don't think so, but I opened up the box in the top right of the engine bay. ( see att photo )
pushed some of the relays and connectors down. Now she is starting. Go figure that one. :D

I'm Back !!!. Won't start again. I am guessing it must be starter motor. Anyone changed one of these recently. Do you recommend OEM or any other particular make. Looking of a recommendation thanks.

Paul

Just had my starter motor changed after problem on Sunday worked fine five minutes later grinding sound then nowt
My local changed with Bosch starter must have been on way our cos it certainly starts much easier

I replaced mine with a Lucas starter motor years ago. She's still running lovely

Easy job to do from above, once you remove the airbox, sound generator (if you have one) and the strut bar.
