Having driven a 30i today and also considering a 23i am I going to be disappointed if I were to go 23i
Purely performance wise.
Would ideally like to try a 23i before travelling some distance with a view to buy one.
Any opinions please, and is there any members in the south west with a 23i?
Appreciate the 30i will always be more grunty
But don’t want to be disappointed with 23i performance.

I believe the 23i can be mapped to give similar performance

I’m not sure.
Thought I read, there wasn’t much to be gained with a remap on that engine, more the 2.0 turbo.
Just don’t want to make the wrong choice 😳

The 23i is going to be similar in performance to your 2.5 e85 (they have just over 200bhp), maybe a little faster if yours is a pre si model

Thanks guys, just trying to be armed with all the info before making the move.
The 30i certainly has enough grunt for me, but need to try a 23i to feel the difference.

Have managed to find a 23i local to me that I can at least try out.
Will see tomorrow.

That's handy - it'll be interesting to see how they compare!

Yes indeed
Have two 23i’s in the pot
But 30i’s are a bit thin on the ground

I’ve had both and couldn’t go back to a 23i after having the 3.0. The smaller engine does go well if you work it hard but the 3.0 was effortless.

We have a 23i and have had it for 5 years now.
Very happy with it but we have not driven any with a larger engine and thats probably a good thing.
Depending on what you want a convertible for and unless you want more power the 23i should be fine.

Think I may struggle at that price
But who knows
May be able to stretch my budget a bit
Was ideally looking around 10k
But I have a few options that may enable me to up my budget

Absolutely 😳
The customer always comes first tho.

Well, drove the 23i this morning, and to be fair, goes quite well.
Yes you would have to work it a bit if you really want to push on, but in reality it’s hardly slow.
Don’t think I would be too disappointed.
The one I have in mind is fully loaded with all the bells and whistles
M sport spec plus nav.proper m seats.
Full bmw history
And 59000 on a 10 plate
Metallic blue, cruise, Bluetooth
18” 325m wheels , aluminium carbon interior trim.
Best put an offer in.

Have now found a 59 30i in gunmetal grey, 54000 miles, fsh, m sport seats and cruise
No nav, but not too worried about that
Black leather and really clean

Having driven the 30i I do love the extra grunt
What to do
23I m sport with nav etc or 30i with the right seats, cruise and 54000 fsh
