Rattling noise- Loose screw/nut behind the drivers seat.....

This car is really starting to pee me off now. Not only is is crap on fuel, given me a scare with the ABS sensor over christmas, now it starting to rattle!!!!

Heard a loud bang while sat in traffic. Thought someone had driven into me to begin with so got out but couldnt see any damage. Got in the car the next day and heard a very odd noise coming from behind the drivers seat. Sounds like its the roof or the o/s near suspension. Like something is loose and rattling about, to describe sounds like a screw is being thrown about when I drive over rough terrain.

The car drives fine and there is no issue, just bloody annoying!

I've done a search and it seem the rear suspension may be the suspect. Problem is the car is out of warranty and as one mightg assume I dont want to get hit with a hefty bill!

Anyone had any similar problems with rattles/suspension....?

According to the other thread it would appear so.

Sounds expensive. Had quite a few BMWs and have now had problems with each due to faulty rear suspension.

Hmmm maybe try a goodwill claim at the dealer, might be cheaper than getting aftermarket suspension. If the springs break all the time, I don't understand why BMW doesn't change them, it seems to have been going on for years and on loads of models?

Certainly sounds like a broken spring... screwdriver rolling round would be a good description

Think mine was £180 fitted at the stealers... Id go to an independent now I've found one though :D

Springs are extremely easy to do D.I.Y, don't pay silly money! I think it takes longer to jack it up and remove the wheel and put it back on than to actually change the spring.

Upon fitting without/with a faulty spring compressor, doesnt a unwieldy spring have the power to take your right index finger off and run away with your girlfriend?

Spoke to David Holmes BMW yesterday and asked for some form of goodwill in relation to the dodgy spring. Cars going in back of next week where they will examine it at a rate of £25 adn should it indeed be the spring, they will apply to BMW for a goodwill claim.
