Rattling from left rear corner

While cleaning the rear wheel with a long wheel brush I accidentally poked the inner wheel arch liner and found that where it is bolted to the exhaust heat shield the shield was corroded away and the loud noise I heard in the cabin was from here.A small hole was drilled through the liner and heat shield and a small tie wrap used to pull them back together. What a relief,no more noises so hope this might help others.

Another source of obscure rattles..well done in finding out Clouseau

Had the same problem. Found it looking for possible damage caused by a very fat sleeping policeman.

Indy fixed it and two other underside panel detachments.

Forgot to mention with the wheel off fixing this I found a broken spring which had shown no signs so had this one changed today and the other side next week as shop only had one in stock.Minor problems and everybody who's seen the car thinks it's great.

That’s the one
Another 'common fault', do you think?

I see my previous comment on another post which may have been construed as acerbic suggests adding this to the list?

I’m personally aware of just two E89s that have broken springs..I’m aware of many more E85/E86s that have.

However the E85s are much older and higher mileages overall so not easy to generalise as to whether for the E89 it’s a ‘common fault’..?

My personal paranoia means I do have two complete sets of springs in my garage in case it is a ‘common fault’..

Along with a set of rear light clusters..which are a common fault
