Rattling Door Locks

Hi Everyone,

I've finally had enough of the door locks rattling like an old fart. What's the best way of making them stop rattle when they are in the down/locked position? They rattle even worse when the doors are unlocked - GRRR! It's like they are knocking against the plastic holder or something.

Any ideas would be hugely appreciated :)

I think you mean the pins that protrude through the door cappings and show if the door is locked or open, as opposed to the lock itself

In essence these should have insulation or a foam sleeve around them and then when slotted in the door card don't rattle.

Easiest fix is to just take the door cards off and sort them out. You may also find the bowden cable loose and rattling and need clipping into place.

Thanks for your reply, is it an easy thing to take the door cards off? I mean it won't effect the airbags or anything like that? Does anyone recommend anything to use to stop the door pins from rattling?

What's the best material to use for sound deadening the doors because they sound rather tiny don't they.... Can anyone recommend a place where I can buy some sound proofing?

Mine from memory have foam sleeves. I'd replicate that.

Door card removal is a bunch of torx and clips. You don't touch the airbag for this job

Can anyone recommend some soundproofing material to be used inside the doors of the Z4? I've tried to Google for something like audio soundproofing but I don't really know how much I need or what type.

Any advice would be great :)

I used Dynamat. Basically a bitumen sheet covered on aluminium foil. Used by the car audio guys

Just cut into strips for ease of handling and fixed on all the inside surfaces of the door skin

Just use the outside area of the door less a few inches all round as the general area to cover.

Thanks CJ for your advice - is it expensive stuff this Dynamat? And where is the best place to get hold of some?
